Bosnians Playing in the Bundesliga: A Look at the Talent Representing Bosnia in Germany's Top League

Bosnian footballers continue to make their mark in the Bundesliga, showcasing their respective talents in various clubs. A closer look at some of the Bosnian players currently lighting up the German league:

1. Ermedin Demirović - VfB Stuttgart Ermedin Demirović signed for VfB Stuttgart in the highly publicized summer of 2024 after a season to remember with Augsburg, netting 15 times in the Bundesliga. Demirović has kept the momentum going at Stuttgart, scoring five goals in his first 10 league games. Recently facing a number of his Stuttgart teammates against Bosnia, he'll face Alexander Nübel, Angelo Stiller, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Chris Führich in future clashes.

2. Haris Tabaković – Hoffenheim Experienced forward Haris Tabaković moved to Hoffenheim for the 2024/25 season after finishing as Bundesliga 2 joint-top scorer with 22 goals for Hertha Berlin. Before finally sealing the deal in Germany, he had successful stints both in Austria and Switzerland with a top scorer award in Austria's second division. Tabaković marked his Bundesliga debut with a goal for Hoffenheim in a 3-1 win against Bochum despite mainly coming on as a substitute in his six Bundesliga appearances this season.

3. Armin Gigović – Holstein Kiel Armin Gigović is an attacking midfielder who signed for Holstein Kiel ahead of the 2024/25 season after previous stints in Denmark, Sweden, and Russia. Having initially represented his country of birth at youth level, Gigović pledged his senior international future to Bosnia in 2023, earning to date four caps. Still only 22, he has since become an established member of the team at Kiel, starting every match since mid-September, scoring twice so far in the Bundesliga.

Nikola Vasilj - St. Pauli 4. Nikola Vasilj – St. Pauli Nikola Vasilj is a reliable goalkeeper for St. Pauli and has been with the Hamburg club for over 100 appearances, this season being his first in the Bundesliga. Having kept four clean sheets in 10 league matches, Vasilj has already managed a

brilliant start to the campaign and is due to make the number one spot for Bosnia's national team his own, having so far earned 11 caps since his 2021 debut. He notably started his first match with Bosnia alongside former Schalke player Sead Kolašinac and Demirović.

5. Denis Huseinbašić – Cologne During his first season as a regular with Cologne, Denis Huseinbašić has already chalked up 50 Bundesliga appearances. Still only 23, the midfielder has started every single one of Cologne's Bundesliga 2 games this term. Born in Germany, Huseinbašić played for their U21s before declaring his allegiance to Bosnia in March this year, where he debuted in a 3-0 defeat against England.

6. Dženis Burnić – Karlsruher Coming through the youth ranks at Borussia Dortmund, Dženis Burnić made two appearances for their first team before transferring to Heidenheim in 2020. After 60 matches with Heidenheim, Burnić transferred to Karlsruher in 2023. Having represented Germany at youth level – including one match for the U21 with current international Nico Schlotterbeck – Burnić has switched his international allegiance to Bosnia and has been a regular feature for his club in the Bundesliga.

7. Ermin Bičakčić – Eintracht Braunschweig Veteran defender Ermin Bičakčić made his Bundesliga debut for Stuttgart in 2009 but rose to prominence with Hoffenheim, where he played 161 Bundesliga matches. After a spell at Hoffenheim, Bičakčić nowadays represents Eintracht Braunschweig. The experienced Bosnian international has 39 caps for his country, having made his debut in 2013 in a friendly against the USA, lining up alongside iconic Vedad Ibišević.
